The topic of waste is the focus of the PhD dissertation defended by Saverio Massaro within the PhD Program of Architecture Theories and Design at Sapienza University of Rome.
The dissertation, entitled Urban integrated strategies to face the crisis of urban waste. New opportunities for a civic architecture, investigates the role of the architectural project in relation to the issue of urban solid waste, among the most common topics today in urban and political agendas of small and large cities around the world.
In an increasingly urbanized world – the projections say that in 2050 there will be about 10 billion inhabitants, of which 80% will live in the city – the role of waste is pivotal: no longer an invisible and obscured network, but a reality that is even more evident and visible.
